Driftwood Lakehouse Chandelier:
This project started off when clients inquired about custom lighting to be developed and installed while major renovations were being done to the home. The interior space was being redoveloped and a new kitchen was in the works. A massive 14-foot island with a sculptural wave pattern and a live edge Maple Countertop was going to be the cornerstone of the new kitchen. The customers requested a unique & elegant, sculptural, driftwood-inspired chandelier that would hang above this island, a piece that would harmonize with its interior environment and also the lake that is seen through the large bay windows across the front of the house.
This chandelier, thoughtfully designed and centered over this majestic island is just over 12 feet long and is suspended from the ceiling with stainless steel hardware. Driftwood for this project was locally sourced, kiln-dried, and then used to fabricate this one-of-a-kind piece. Numerous pieces of driftwood were carefully placed and woven together atop an aluminum subframe for strength and structural integrity. The natural driftwood shapes and hand-formed brass arms homogenize with the wave pattern that runs horizontally through the island and backsplash tiling. The natural tones of the oxidized driftwood harmonize beautifully with the colors in the tongue and groove ceiling, trusses, and natural maple used throughout the kitchen. Solid polished brass hardware and lighting components were used to match the brass sink and cabinetry hardware. 14 handblown iridised amber glass globes adorne the polished brass chandelier arms. Filament-style dimmable LED lamps illuminate at dusk and into the night.
Every step of this lighting journey for this project, from design to fabrication to installation was carefully curated by Mark Wood. Reach out today to inquire about your ideas for your sacred personal space.
